I wish everyone would stop freaking out about graduation… I really wish they would. We’re supposed to be excited… not hyperventilating like Morgan is half the time… that girl needs to chill. It’s going to be fine. We’ll all figure out what we want to do eventually, so there’s no use worrying about it… instead let’s just play a game and relax a bit… today I got to try a sneak peek for the game Dark Strokes: Sins of the FAther from Alawar Games.
There’s been quite a few really great games come out of Alawar lately and Dark Strokes: Sins of the Father is really no exception. I was surprised. Sometimes when developers try to push out too many titles, you start to see a lack of quality show through. But that’s just not the case with Alawar, and especially not with this game.

Finally, I get to play a game where the main character is a guy… you play Ethan, whose father is a judge in a distant town, and he’s called for you and your fiancé Clair to come visit him on an important matter. It doesn’t take long for things to unravel though as the train you’re on bursts into flame and crashes off a bridge. Both you and Clair survive and have to try to find a way to the town on foot.
Once you get to town, you discover it’s been overrun by strange characters wearing masks called the Faceless ones. They are seriously creepy and big trouble for you and everyone in the town. People have been disappearing, and no one knows what they do with them. And what’s worse… they capture Claire! Now, it’s up to you to travel to the distant tower to save her and the rest of the townspeople from the Faceless Ones!

The graphics are pretty kickass for a Hidden Object Game… all the cut scenes were really well done and did a great job pulling you into the story. The sound effects and music were also exceptional and had me shivering from all the whispers and chilling melodies.

The hidden object scenes were challenging, but not too challenging. I don’t have that much patience for hidden object scenes, so I did have to use the hint button after a little bit when I couldn’t find something. The puzzles were fun. I actually really enjoyed them… again, nothing too difficult, because I don’t like to hit my head against the desk, but challenging enough that I felt good about being able to solve them without the hint button.

Overall, Dark Strokes: Sins of the Father is another great hit from Alawar and I can’t wait to play the full version of the game when it comes out!
