MumboJumbo Games released their popular iPad game, Glowfish, for the PC. Cut scenes pop out at you in a layered manner, such that you can tilt them with your mouse for a fun 3D effect. Glowfish treats the player with high-contrast, deeply colored art that achieves a soft, and, of course, “glowy” look.
Glowfish challenges you to find and free trapped friends. Your liberated swimming buddies then help you defeat enemies. You must guide them through increasingly difficult mazes to finish the levels. You can also find helpers and gathering coins along the way allows you to upgrade your aquatic companions.
The uniqueness of the Glowfish gameplay and the look of the game bring welcomed variety to a cluttered landscape of hidden object and time management games. My only criticism would be that this game is essentially a more developed version of the first stage of the game Spore. A lot of the “bad guys” look like they were taken straight out of Spore. Another similarity to Spore is the over-sized predators lurking in the background.
That aside, this game is a joy to play. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a unique causal game. Check out our tips and tricks if you are having trouble getting all the stars.
